Response to Tractor Supply Company’s Statement

We appreciate Tractor Supply Company’s longstanding support for rural communities and their commitment to essential causes like veteran support, agricultural education, and animal welfare. It's also important to address the broader context of their recent changes to DEI, community investment, and climate change mitigation.

There is a growing misconception that social and climate-related initiatives do not align with the values of rural America. On the contrary, many in rural communities deeply care about these issues, as they are directly impacted by them.

Unity in values:

Farmers and rural communities are often among the first to feel the impacts of climate change, from unpredictable weather patterns to soil erosion. Addressing climate issues isn't just an urban concern—it's about ensuring the sustainability and resilience of rural livelihoods. By withdrawing from carbon emission goals, the company risks neglecting the long-term environmental health of the very communities they aim to support.

Many parts of rural America are diverse and inclusive. And many rural residents value equality and respect for all individuals, regardless of their backgrounds. By eliminating DEI roles and discontinuing sponsorships of initiatives like pride festivals and voting campaigns, the company may inadvertently alienate parts of their community that value these inclusions as pillars of mutual respect and growth.

The need for collaboration:

To truly support rural America, it’s crucial to foster an environment of collaboration and partnership on both social and climate issues. We believe that the true spirit of rural America lies in its resilience, inclusivity, and proactive stewardship of natural resources. Aligning corporate practices with these values will not only strengthen rural communities but also ensure mutual growth and trust.

Many rural constituents are already engaged in climate-friendly practices and appreciate the long-term benefits of sustainability. These actions are not in conflict with traditional rural values but are an extension of them, ensuring that future generations can continue the farming and community traditions that are so vital to ‘Life Out Here’.

We urge Tractor Supply Company to reconsider their stance on social and environmental issues. By working together with rural communities on these fronts, they can continue to embody the principles of being good neighbors and stewards of the land, while also fostering a climate of inclusivity and forward-thinking that truly honors the diverse and dynamic nature of rural America.
